Title: Licensed Massage Therapist
Requirement: 500 hours and MBLEx, background check and fingerprints
Renewal: 24 hours/2 years

Now that Virginia has passed the Interstate Massage Compact (IMpact), it joins Arkansas, Nevada, and Ohio, as an official IMpact-participating state. At least three more states must pass the IMpact bill before massage therapists in these participating states can obtain a multistate license.

The Virginia legislature introduced a bill that would increase its massage therapy minimum-required education hours from 500 to 625. Increasing training hours aligns Virginia with a majority of the country. We encourage you to contact your representatives and urge them to support the bill.

Support the bill and licensure mobility by writing a letter to your representatives today.

The Virginia bill discussed in our last update, Virginia HB 562, has become law. The new law changes Virginia's massage therapy regulation system from certification, also known as "title protection," to mandatory licensure.
