What are the initial licensing requirements in my state?
Obtain 625 education hours, pass the MBLEx or the NCBTMB exam, proof of completing training to identify victims of human trafficking and 2 hours of implicit bias training, and submit a criminal background check.
What are the licensing renewal requirements in my state?
Licenses must be renewed every three years. Show proof of 18 hours of CE. At least 1 CE hour must be related to pain and symptom management, and at least 2 hours of CE must be related to professional ethics and boundaries.
Today, House Bill 5651, providing for the state licensing of massage therapists, was signed into law by Governor Granholm. While the law is effective immediately, it will take some time to implement. There is no action for you to take at this time. It will likely take at least 6-12 months before applications become available, ABMP will continue to keep members informed.
