Practitioners exempt from licensing (statute)
- (I) Practices using reflexology, auricular therapy, and meridian therapies that affect the reflexes of the body;
- (II) Practices using touch, words, and directed movements to deepen a person's awareness of movement patterns in his or her body, such as the Feldenkrais method, the Trager approach, and body-mind centering;
- (III) Practices using touch or healing touch to affect the human energy systems, such as reiki, shiatsu, and meridians;
- (IV) Structural integration practices such as Rolfing and Hellerwork; and
- (V) The process of muscle activation techniques.
- Animal massage is also exempt from licensing, as long as the person completed training in a CO-approved or USDE-accredited school.

Governor Jared Polis signed into law House Bill 24-1371, requiring local government (counties, cities, or municipalities) to conduct periodic criminal background checks for massage establishment operators, owners, and employees.
On June 6, Colorado Governor Jared Polis signed into law Senate Bill 201, raising the state’s minimum massage education hours from 500 to 650.
House Bill 22-1300 allows counties, cities, and towns in Colorado to adopt local ordinances. The intent is to prevent human trafficking-related offenses to occur in illicit businesses that represent themselves as massage establishments. The bill takes effect August 10, 2022.
Under the new amendments to Colorado's Massage Practice Act, starting July 1, 2014, the legal title for massage therapists in Colorado will change. All "registered" Colorado massage therapists will now be called "licensed" massage therapists, and will have a massage license, not a massage registration. This is simply a change in terminology; it does not affect any of the rights or obligations you have as a massage therapist in Colorado. The change was made to reduce consumer confusion, sin
