What are the initial licensing requirements in my state?
LMT: Obtain 500 education hours, submit a background check, and pass the MBLEx or NCBTMB exam.
Master Massage Therapist: Before July 1, 2010: 250 hours of practical experience plus 125 hours of approved continuing education. July 1, 2010-June 30, 2023: At least 2 years of practice and 125 hours of CE. On or after July 1, 2023: At least 12 months of practice and 300 hours of advanced massage therapy coursework as part of an Associate of Applied Science degree.
What are the licensing renewal requirements in my state?
Licenses must be renewed every two years, one month before a licensee's birth month. Ex: If your birthday is July 15, renew by June 15. Show proof of 18 hours of CE (maximum of 6 hours permitted online).
Are some practitioners exempt from licensure?
Practices involving only light touch in the administration of energetic principles or spiritual healing.
