What are the initial licensing requirements in my state?
Obtain 700 education hours, submit a fingerprint background check, show proof of lawful US residency, and submit a passport-style photograph. If the applicant graduated from a school outside of Arizona, passing either the MBLEx or the NCBTMB exam is required.
What are the licensing renewal requirements in my state?
Licenses must be renewed every two years. Show proof of 24 hours of CE (12 of which must be completed in person). No more than 4 hours of CPR or 4 hours of First Aid (for a combination of 8 hours) is permitted. CEs cannot be carried over.
Are some practitioners exempt from licensure?
Movement educators (Feldenkrais, Trager) and work affecting the human energy field (ABT, Polarity) when clients are clothed; reflexologists; Jin Shin Jyutsu.

ABMP submitted written commentary to the Arizona legislature regarding House BIll 2169, which would merge the Arizona State Board of Massage Therapy with the Arizona Barbering and Cosmetology Board. The Arizona legislature adopted House Bill 2012, which eliminates the requirement for the State Board of Massage Therapy to establish communication proficiency requirements for applicants applying for a massage therapy license.
